Emo Night Tour – Live Concert Videography
The Emo Night Tour was one of my first-ever live show experiences behind the camera—and I went into it ready to push my gear to the limit. Shooting on a Nikon Z6, I knew low light would be the biggest challenge. The camera already handled dim environments well, but I had just purchased an Atomos Ninja V monitor and wanted to try capturing in RAW for maximum flexibility. I bought the remaining accessories I needed, and the entire event ended up being shot in RAW, making color grading and noise reduction far easier in post.
At the time, my Z6 was limited to 4K30, so I used an open-source AI tool to convert footage to 4K60, allowing me to slow down and speed ramp for a more dynamic final edit. While I wouldn’t rely on that workflow today, it was a valuable learning experience that taught me how to creatively problem-solve when equipment limitations stand in the way.
I connected with the Emo Night Tour team through a DM they sent me and they hooked me up with free tickets. Inside, I met other passionate creatives, including a fellow photographer who shared the pit with me. I shot the event from start to finish, capturing the high energy and intimate crowd moments that make shows like this unique.
The night ended with an expensive surprise—Taylor Swift was playing in town, so my short Uber ride home cost nearly $75. Still, it was worth it for the experience, the connections, and the chance to create a concert video that pushed my technical and creative limits.
